Episode description: In San Antonio, Texas, ANTIQUES ROADSHOW host Mark L. Walberg and appraiser Beth Szecila visit the Witte Museum's collection of horn furniture, a Bavarian craft popularized in nineteenth-century America by Texas maker Wenzel Friederich, whose patrons included Queen Victoria and Kaiser Wilhelm I. At the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, appraisers corral treasures from all over the map, including a controversial silver statue of St. Catherine that could be a fabulously valuable medieval masterpiece—or a seventeenth-century copy; a two-hundred-year-old heirloom needlepoint sampler from the owner's Newport, Rhode Island forebears; and a massive desk and bookcase, made in the mid-nineteenth-century German-Texan tradition, valued at $7,000 to $10,000.
